Still Here

Hi all whirlies,

Just want to let you all know that I'm still here and I'm doing okay.  I'm still working out a number of things.  But I haven't left for snowier country. I just heard from Julie at Sturgis who is trying to arrange our next meeting on March 24.  I hope to see you all there, happy that spring has finally come as I will be.  And thank you to everyone who sent me such nice e-mails back in 2010.  They really meant a lot to me.

Marguerite and I take our own tour of the library and harass anyone we see. Poor Colleen :). Actually poor Bell Jacobson... she found a few surprises. :)

Send us your school librarians!

At the annual meeting (photos to come) last night the West River Rural Librarians agreed they would love to invite their local school or academic librarians to come and join the group.  If you know a librarian you would like to invite to join our rural librarians group, please send their name, e-mail address, and mailing address to Paula at hillcitylibrary@hillcitysd.org. 

Our next formal meeting will be held at the Sturgis Public Library in February 2011.  Before that please plan to join us for SDLA's Legislative Day in Pierre on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at the Rawlins Municipal Library.  SDLA will hold meetings throughout the day and the social will be held in the evening.  Join a carpool, make the ride safe and affordable!  Link to the comments of this blog if you are looking to join a carpool. 

Hill City holds Readers and Writers Conference

The Friends of the Hill City Library will hold their first Reader's and Writers' Conference this Saturday, October 23.  Registration opens at 8:30 am.  The cost is $35 for the day's workshops.  Author Kent Meyers of Work of Wolves and Twisted Tree will be the keynote speaker.  Dan Siebersma, South Dakota State Librarian, will speak about libraries. And there will be a One Book South Dakota book discussion on this years' selection What is the What that is free and open to the public. 

Join us this Saturday if you are a reader or you like to write for informative and entertaining sessions.

The award really is a big deal:up to 10 librarians in public, school, college, community college and university libraries nationwide will win $5,000 and be honored at an award reception in New York, hosted by The New York Times.
